Tindal Street Press to publish novel #2

I’ve been slack. I can’t seem to find the time to update this blog, what with teaching, family and writing… However I am very pleased to report that Tindal Street Press will be publishing my new novel in February 2012.

I’ve already begun editing (corrections and rewrites must be finished by the end of July apparently) and Luke – my editor – is as thorough and relaxed, as last time. However I’ve suggested three titles and Luke hasn’t jumped at any of them. This worries me. But as soon as I know what it’s called I’ll post it here.

The novel is set in the near future (but it’s not Sci-Fi). It’s about a young man called Lionel who is mixed race, adopted and obsessed with MMORPGs (online role playing games). The novel switches between a real world and a virtual world and explores notions of identity (cultural, digital, gender etc.). Once I get the blurb from the publisher I’ll post it here too.

All new Tindal Street website

All new Tindal Street website

Tindal Street Press (my publisher) has finally dumped the old website and launched the all new funky version. It’s so sexy!

The old site was in need of an upgrade when I first met the team two years ago – wheels turn slowly in the publishing world:-)

Anyway – visit the new site. There’s info on all Tindal Street authors, reading guides, submission guidelines, news & events and even a lovely picture of Alan of Luke. Enjoy!

Also – Roads Ahead – the new offering of short stories from Tindal (edited by Catherine O’Flynn) has been getting some great reviews in the press. You can read Catherine O’Flynn’s introduction here.

I’m doing another joint gig, this time with Jeff Phelps (who I’ve yet to meet but hope to remedy that soon) at Birmingham Artsfest this September to talk about our novels – reading and writing. Final date/time to be confirmed. Jeff’s new novel Box of Tricks is described by Tindal Street Press as follows:

Box of Tricks by Jeff Phelps

Box of Tricks by Jeff Phelps

While Eddie’s parents are away in Scotland he has to stay and help out at his auntie’s boarding house in New Brighton. Here he pals up with his charismatic cousin Ray, a well-meaning teddy boy who breaks his mother’s heart with his alternating charm and fecklessness and meets Julia, a troubled beauty who twists him around her little finger. But as Eddie becomes involved with the sinister joke shop The Box of Tricks – and its under-the-counter packages – he begins to learn more about the needs of others than he bargained for. It sounds great – I’m looking forward to reading it. The cover for Jeff’s novel was designed by my very good friend Kate Prentice, who was also responsible for the cover of my novel – Among Thieves.
